Key takeaways

  • Unit Session Percentage judges the listing; ad conversion rate judges targeting.
  • One 2026 dataset's median Sponsored Products conversion rate was 5.85%, with a wide range.
  • Fix images, reviews, price and offer before buying more traffic.

Amazon's ready-to-advertise checklist

  • 5+ reviews, 3.5 stars or higher
  • 4+ images, 1,000 px or larger
  • 3+ bullet points
  • Clear title around 60 characters
  • In stock, winning featured offer
  • Competitive price, Prime where possible

How is conversion rate measured on Amazon?

There are two common measures, and mixing them up causes confusion. Unit Session Percentage, in Seller Central Business Reports under Detail Page Sales and Traffic by ASIN, is units ordered divided by sessions, for all traffic. Ad conversion rate, in Amazon Ads, is orders divided by clicks for a campaign, keyword or search term.

Unit Session Percentage counts units, so one order of three units counts three times; ad conversion rate counts orders. That is why the two numbers rarely match. Use Unit Session Percentage to judge the listing and ad conversion rate to judge targeting.

  • Unit Session Percentage = units ordered / sessions
  • Ad conversion rate = orders / ad clicks
  • Search query data in Brand Analytics shows purchases against clicks per search

What is a good Amazon conversion rate?

Benchmarks differ by category, price and traffic source, and most published ranges come from vendors with different methods. One measured 2026 dataset from WisePPC, covering 69 managed accounts from April to June 2026, found a median Sponsored Products conversion rate of 5.85%, with the middle half between 2.30% and 10.04%.

Low priced repeat purchases often convert far better than high priced or considered products. The most useful comparison is your own product against its history and against the competitors that show beside it for your main keywords.

Why conversion rate matters so much

Conversion rate multiplies everything else. At the same cost per click, doubling conversion rate halves ACoS. It also feeds organic rank, because sales on a search help Amazon see the product as relevant for it. That is why fixing the listing usually beats raising bids. Our guide to a good ACoS for Amazon shows the maths, and Amazon CTR covers the click that comes first.

What Amazon says makes a product ready to advertise

Amazon's Sponsored Products best practices list the listing basics it recommends before advertising. They double as a conversion checklist.

  • Five or more reviews with a rating of 3.5 stars or higher
  • Four or more images, at least 1,000 pixels in height or width
  • At least three bullet points
  • A title of about 60 characters that names the product clearly
  • In stock and winning the featured offer
  • A competitive price, and Prime eligibility through FBA where possible

How to improve Amazon conversion rate, step by step

Work through the listing in the order shoppers see it, and test one change at a time.

  • Check stock, price and the featured offer first
  • Rebuild the image stack: main image, scale, benefits, in use, comparison
  • Answer the top questions and complaints from reviews in bullets and images
  • Add A+ Content, and Premium A+ if eligible
  • Add video where your category allows it
  • Grow reviews through legitimate programs such as Vine
  • Use Manage Your Experiments to A/B test titles, images and A+ if brand registered
  • Recheck Unit Session Percentage after four weeks

Ad traffic that does not convert

Sometimes the listing is fine and the traffic is wrong. If Unit Session Percentage is healthy but ad conversion rate is low, review the search term report: broad and automatic campaigns often pull in searches for different products, sizes or price points. Add negatives for those terms and move budget to exact keywords that convert. Our guide on how to optimize Amazon PPC covers the routine.

Common conversion killers

These problems appear again and again in audits.

  • Main image that hides scale or what is included
  • Price well above the products shown beside it
  • Recent negative reviews left unanswered by listing changes
  • Missing A+ Content on brand registered products
  • Variations split so each child has few reviews
  • Slow delivery promise compared with Prime competitors

Conversion rate and the rest of your strategy

Conversion rate connects listings, ads and operations. A product that runs out of stock loses conversion history; a product priced too high wastes ad clicks. Treat it as a shared number for the whole team, not only the ads manager. Our Amazon listing optimization guide goes deeper on copy and images.
