What a useful Amazon Ads benchmark looks like

A benchmark is only useful if you know where it came from: how many accounts, which ad type, which marketplace, which dates and which attribution window. Two reports can both be accurate and still disagree by a factor of two, because one measures tool users with mature campaigns and the other measures a mix of new and established brands.

Treat every published figure as a range to sanity check against, not a target. The number that matters for bidding is your own break-even CPC, which depends on your price, margin and conversion rate. If you need a refresher on the metrics themselves, our guide to Amazon advertising metrics defines each one.

  • CPC: ad spend divided by clicks
  • CTR: clicks divided by impressions
  • Conversion rate: orders divided by clicks

Sponsored Products benchmarks: CPC, CTR and conversion rate in 2026

The most transparent 2026 dataset we found is from WisePPC, published June 30, 2026. It covers 69 Amazon advertising accounts managed on its platform for the 90 days ending June 29, 2026, using 7-day attribution. WisePPC notes these accounts all use an optimization tool, so they are not a random sample of advertisers.

The median Sponsored Products CTR was 0.69%, with the middle half of accounts between 0.40% and 0.83%. The median conversion rate was 5.85%, with the middle half between 2.30% and 10.04%. The median US CPC was $0.82, with the middle half between $0.51 and $1.22, but that CPC row is based on only 19 US accounts. Median ACoS in the same data was 28.2%, which you can compare with our guide to what a good ACoS is.

  • Median CTR: 0.69% (middle half 0.40% to 0.83%)
  • Median conversion rate: 5.85% (middle half 2.30% to 10.04%)
  • Median US CPC: $0.82 (middle half $0.51 to $1.22, 19 accounts)
  • Median ACoS: 28.2%; median ROAS: 3.55

How Amazon CPC moved in 2026

Tinuiti's Q2 2026 Digital Ads Benchmark Report, as summarized by Karooya on August 11, 2026, found Sponsored Products spend up 38% year over year, clicks up 37% and CPC up only about 1%, while attributed sales grew 44%.

Sponsored Brands looked different in the same report: spend grew 20%, clicks grew 4%, and CPCs had risen by double digits for five straight quarters. Skai's Q2 2026 data, reported in its July 2026 press release, showed Amazon DSP clicks up 127% and DSP CPC down 35%. If your Sponsored Brands costs per click keep climbing, that matches the market, and it is a reason to check whether each Sponsored Brands campaign still earns its place. Our Amazon CPC guide covers what drives the price of a click.

CPC and conversion benchmarks by category

Category matters more than any average. beBOLD's August 12, 2026 summary of Pacvue's 2026 Mid-Year Commerce Media and Summer Sales Benchmark Report listed Health and Household as the highest CPC category at $2.18 and Clothing, Shoes and Jewelry as the lowest at $0.55. The same summary listed Sponsored Products ROAS of $10.19 in Electronics, the highest, and $3.13 in Beauty and Personal Care, the lowest.

Pacvue also reported a 26.5% conversion rate for Sponsored Brands. That figure comes from a different dataset and ad type than the WisePPC Sponsored Products medians, so do not compare the two directly. The practical lesson: benchmark against your own category and ad type, never against an all-Amazon average.

  • Highest category CPC (Pacvue, mid 2026): Health and Household, $2.18
  • Lowest category CPC (Pacvue, mid 2026): Clothing, Shoes and Jewelry, $0.55
  • Sponsored Products ROAS range by category: $3.13 to $10.19

Why published benchmarks disagree

Search for Amazon benchmarks and you will find planning ranges on agency and tool blogs that sit well above or below the WisePPC medians, often with no sample size or dates attached. Different numbers are not necessarily wrong. Differences come from who is in the sample, how campaigns are built and how results are measured.

Before you react to a benchmark, check whether it describes the same ad type, marketplace, season and attribution window as your report. Prime Day and Q4 weeks raise CPCs and conversion rates together, so a quarter that includes a major event will not match a quiet quarter.

  • Sample: tool users, agency clients or a broad panel
  • Ad type: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display or DSP
  • Attribution window and whether halo sales are counted
  • Season: event weeks versus normal weeks
  • Campaign mix: branded terms convert far better than generic terms

How to calculate your own CPC and conversion rate benchmark

Your own history is the most reliable benchmark you will ever have. Use at least 60 to 90 days so one promotion or stockout does not skew the result, and split the numbers so you compare like with like.

  • Download a campaign report and a search term report from the Amazon Ads console for the last 90 days
  • Calculate CPC, CTR and conversion rate per ad type, not just account wide
  • Split branded and non-branded search terms, since branded terms usually convert much better
  • Split by match type and by your top ASINs
  • Check Business Reports in Seller Central for unit session percentage, your total conversion rate including organic
  • Record the medians and the middle half of results as your internal benchmark
  • Repeat every quarter and compare the same quarter year over year

Turn conversion rate into a maximum CPC

Benchmarks become useful when they turn into bids. The maximum CPC you can afford is your average order value multiplied by your target ACoS multiplied by your conversion rate. As a worked example with made up numbers: a $30 product, a 25% target ACoS and a 10% conversion rate give a maximum CPC of $0.75.

If that product converts at 5% instead, the same target allows only $0.38 per click. This is why conversion rate, not CPC, is usually the first lever to pull. Use our break-even ACoS calculator to set the target ACoS from your margin after fees, then plug it into the formula above.

What to do when you are below the benchmark

Read each metric as a symptom. Low CTR usually points at the main image, price, review count or irrelevant targeting. Low conversion usually points at the listing, price or reviews, and our guide to Amazon conversion rate goes through the fixes. High CPC with low conversion is the expensive combination: you are paying a lot for traffic that does not buy.

  • Low CTR: test the main image and check that targets match the product
  • Low conversion rate: fix the listing, price and reviews before raising bids
  • High CPC: move spend to exact match winners and long tail terms
  • High ACoS with good conversion: lower bids toward your maximum CPC

How PPC Spider uses benchmarks

PPC Spider sets each product's target ACoS from its margin after fees, then manages bids against that target rather than against a market average. SpiderOS monitors bids, budgets, search terms and stock, so a CPC jump or a conversion drop on a top ASIN is flagged early.
