Cyber Week 2026 online sales forecast vs average September 2026
What Adobe forecast
Adobe expects US online sales of $275.1 billion from November 1 to December 31, 2026, up 6.7% year on year. Cyber Week, the five days from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, should bring $47.5 billion, up 7.4% and 17.3% of the season. Cyber Monday, November 30, is forecast at $15.1 billion, and Black Friday at $12.9 billion, the faster grower at 9.2%. The forecast is built on Adobe Analytics data covering more than 1 trillion visits to US retail sites, 100 million SKUs and 18 product categories, per Digital Commerce 360.
The part most coverage skipped is the essentials line. Adobe wrote that many shoppers are using holiday discounts to stock up on everyday products rather than only buying gifts, and put numbers on it: clothing basics up 210%, personal hygiene up 150%, baby products up 113%, pet products up 93% and household cleaning up 49% during Cyber Week.
Read the 210% correctly: it is versus September, not last year
These essentials figures compare Cyber Week daily sales with average sales in September 2026. They are not year on year growth. Every holiday season produces a spike over a quiet September, so the useful signal is the size of the spike by category, which tells a brand how much stock and ad budget a normal replenishment item will need for five days.
The full season numbers point the same way. Grocery is forecast at $26.1 billion, up 10.3%, the fastest growth among Adobe's six named categories, ahead of toys (9.6%), cosmetics (9.5%), furniture (7.3%), electronics (5.9%) and apparel (4.7%). Shoppers are shifting holiday spend toward things they would buy anyway, at a discount.

Is Adobe's forecast reliable?
One check is already in. Adobe forecast $9.9 billion of US online spend for the October 6 to 7 Prime Big Deal Days event. Its own measured figure, reported by Digital Commerce 360 on October 8, was $9.86 billion, up 8.5% instead of the forecast 9.2%. That is close, but slightly below plan, which is a reason to treat the Cyber Week numbers as a planning range, not a promise. Category spikes for one brand can be far higher or lower than the market average.
Holiday 2026 dates that matter
Adobe publishes holiday forecast
Prime Big Deal Days: $9.86B measured vs $9.9B forecast
Thanksgiving: $6.9B forecast, Cyber Week starts
Black Friday: $12.9B forecast
Cyber Monday: $15.1B forecast
So what: the money math for a replenishment brand
A spike in units is only good news if each unit still makes money at the deal price. Adobe expects Cyber Week discounts to peak at up to 30% off listed price across retail, with electronics at 30%, apparel at 23% and toys at 29%, roughly in line with 2025.
For example, using illustrative numbers: a body wash sells for $10.00 on Amazon. Cost of goods is $3.00, the 15% referral fee is $1.50 and the FBA fee is $3.50, so profit is $2.00 a unit. At 20% off, the price is $8.00, referral drops to $1.20, and profit falls to $0.30 a unit, before any ad spend. If the brand normally sells 100 units a day at $2.00 profit ($200), and the deal lifts it to 250 units a day, the deal day earns $75. The brand sells 2.5 times the units and makes about 60% less profit, unless those new buyers come back at full price.
The second risk is stock. At 2.5 times the run rate for five days, the brand needs about 1,250 units for Cyber Week instead of 500. Running out on Cyber Monday costs both the sales and the organic rank built during the week.
What sellers should do
This is a job for the brand owner, the inventory planner and whoever runs ads, and it should be finished before Thanksgiving week.
- Inventory planner: set Cyber Week stock to 2x to 3x your September daily run rate for basics, hygiene, baby and pet ASINs, and check FBA inventory limits in Seller Central under Inventory, then Capacity Monitor. Metric: zero out of stock days from November 26 to December 1.
- Brand owner: work out profit per unit at each discount level (10%, 15%, 20%, 30%) after referral, fulfillment and ad cost, and set the deepest deal you will accept. Metric: contribution margin per unit stays above zero at the chosen deal price.
- Ads lead: raise budgets on proven essentials campaigns from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday and set budget alerts, because higher traffic exhausts daily budgets earlier. Metric: no campaign out of budget before 6 PM on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
- Marketplace manager: turn on or promote Subscribe and Save, or subscription offers on your own site, so deal buyers become repeat buyers at full price. Metric: new subscriptions started during Cyber Week and their 60 day repeat rate.
- Ads lead: use new to brand reports after the event to see which essentials pulled first time buyers. Metric: new to brand share of Cyber Week orders compared with your October baseline.
- Finance lead: model January cash flow, since stocking 2x to 3x units means paying suppliers before the money from Cyber Week clears. Metric: cash on hand stays above your minimum through January 31.
Cyber Week essentials checklist
- Stock 2x to 3x September daily run rate
- Profit per unit at 10, 15, 20 and 30% off
- Budget alerts on essentials campaigns
- Subscribe and Save offers live
- Check FBA capacity limits now
- Plan January supplier payments
When this does not apply
If you sell gifts, electronics or seasonal decor, the essentials spike is not your benchmark; Adobe's discount and category numbers for those products matter more. If your product has thin margins and few repeat buyers, a deep Cyber Week deal may lose money on every unit, and the right move can be a smaller deal or no deal with steady ads. And because these are market-wide forecasts, use your own 2025 Cyber Week sales by ASIN as the main guide when you have them.
