What changed in 2026: DSP became part of Amazon Ads Agent
In September 2026 Amazon introduced Amazon Ads Agent as the name for its unified platform, combining what were the ads console and Amazon DSP. Amazon's DSP page now says DSP has evolved into Amazon Ads Agent, with programmatic display, video and audio available to all advertisers through DVA+, which Amazon said would begin rolling out in late October.
Existing DSP campaigns, audiences, creatives and reporting transfer automatically, and logins stay the same. For brands, the choice is no longer which console to use but which campaign type fits the goal.
Sponsored ads: what they are best at
Sponsored ads capture demand that already exists. A shopper searches, your ad appears beside organic results, and you pay only for the click. They are tied to specific products, they feed organic rank through sales, and they have no minimum spend. For most sellers they are where the first dollar of ad budget should go. Our guides to Amazon Sponsored Products and the wider Amazon advertising guide cover setup.
Programmatic reach on and off Amazon with retargeting, AMC audiences and lift measurement, for brands whose listings already convert.
Amazon DSP: what it is best at
DSP creates and recaptures demand. It reaches audiences by behaviour, such as people who viewed your product, bought in your category or watch certain content, on Amazon and across Prime Video, Twitch, Thursday Night Football, Fire TV and thousands of third-party sites and apps. It suits product launches, seasonal pushes, remarketing to detail page viewers and replenishment reminders.
Brands that do not sell on Amazon can use it too, sending traffic to their own website. That is one reason DSP is judged on reach, new-to-brand customers and total sales lift as well as direct return.
Amazon DSP vs sponsored ads: key differences
The two differ on almost every lever. These are the ones that matter for budgeting.
- Pricing: sponsored ads charge per click; DSP is bought on impressions
- Targeting: sponsored ads target keywords and products; DSP targets audiences
- Placement: sponsored ads sit mainly in Amazon search and product pages; DSP runs on and off Amazon, including streaming TV
- Creative: sponsored ads use your listing; DSP uses display, video and audio creative
- Minimum spend: sponsored ads have none; ask Amazon or your agency about current programmatic terms
- Measurement: sponsored ads lean on ACoS; DSP leans on reach, new-to-brand and incremental sales
How much does Amazon DSP cost?
Amazon's DSP page does not publish a price list. It says the existing programmatic pricing model carries forward into Amazon Ads Agent and directs pricing questions to an Amazon Ads account executive. In practice you pay for impressions, so the cost of a campaign depends on audience size, format and frequency. Video and streaming TV usually cost more per impression than standard display. Because return is often indirect, plan a test budget large enough to measure, rather than a small budget spread thin.
When is a brand ready for DSP?
DSP works best on top of a strong base. Signs you are ready:
- Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands are profitable and capped by search volume, not budget
- Listings convert well, so extra traffic is not wasted
- Enough detail page traffic to build useful remarketing audiences
- Products with repeat purchase, high price or a long consideration cycle
- A clear goal: launch, new-to-brand growth or category conquest
- Budget for a test long enough to measure, usually several weeks

How to test DSP, step by step
Treat the first DSP campaign as an experiment with a control.
- Pick two or three products with strong conversion and stock
- Start with remarketing to detail page viewers who did not buy
- Add a lookalike or in-market audience as a second line
- Set frequency caps so the same shopper is not overloaded
- Measure new-to-brand, total sales and branded search lift, not ACoS alone
- Use Amazon Marketing Cloud to see how DSP exposure affects search ad results
Where Sponsored Display and Full-Funnel Campaigns fit
Sponsored Display sits between the two: self-service, cost-per-click or impression-based, with audience and product targeting. Amazon's new Full-Funnel Campaigns, available to US advertisers from September 2026, let AI manage channel mix and creative across video, display and audio toward one goal. Both are reasonable first steps beyond search. Amazon Marketing Cloud helps measure how they work together.
Running DSP with PPC Spider
PPC Spider plans DSP and streaming TV around the same profit targets as search, so upper funnel spend is judged on what it adds to total sales. See our Amazon DSP agency service, our Amazon PPC management plans, or start with a free Amazon audit to see whether your account is ready.
