What Walmart changed
Walmart's developer update dated November 5, 2026 says seller-fulfilled fulfillment (SFF) offers with return policy exemptions are no longer eligible for the Walmart+ badge, effective October 19, 2026. It applies to both existing and newly enrolled offers, and Walmart adds that an exempt offer is ineligible even if it meets every other program requirement. The notice is marked US only.
Walmart's Walmart+ program documentation now lists the rule as one of two product requirements. The offer must promise delivery within two calendar days or less, and it must not have any return policy exemptions. If an offer becomes ineligible because of an exemption, Walmart says to remove the exemption and re-enroll the offer.
- Seller requirements unchanged: at least 100 orders fulfilled in the past 90 days
- Seller fault on-time delivery above 90% over the past 14 days
- Seller cancellation rate below 2.5% over the past 14 days
- Product requirements: two-day delivery promise and no return policy exemption
Walmart+ badge checklist for seller-fulfilled offers
- 100+ orders in the past 90 days
- On-time delivery above 90% over 14 days
- Cancellation rate below 2.5% over 14 days
- Two-day or faster delivery promise
- No return policy exemption on the offer
- Re-enrolled after removing any exemption
The detail most sellers will miss: the date is backdated
The notice went up on November 5 but names October 19 as the effective date. Walmart gives no reason for the gap. Read literally, any exempt SFF offer may have lost the badge more than two weeks before most sellers could have read about it, which means the start of Walmart's Early Black Friday Deals on November 12 is the first big test.
Walmart also notes that successful enrollment does not guarantee the badge will appear, and that it keeps monitoring performance. So re-enrolling is necessary but not sufficient: the offer still has to hold the two-day promise and the seller metrics above.

Who is exposed
Walmart's returns policy says exemptions are needed for items that do not follow the standard returns process, and names freight-shipped items, multi-box shipments and luxury items as the typical cases. Certain fully regulated hazardous materials for ground shipment default to a return exemption automatically. Exemptions are requested through Seller Center Help with an Excel template, up to 250 SKUs per request, and Walmart can withdraw them at its discretion.
That points to furniture, large home goods, fitness equipment, multi-carton kits, luxury items and some hazmat products such as certain aerosols or chemicals. These are also the categories where sellers most often ship their own orders, so the overlap with SFF is large. Small parcel items without exemptions are not affected.
So what: badge versus exemption, in plain math
An exemption protects margin on returns: Walmart's policy lets sellers charge a restocking fee of up to 20% of the item price on exempt items that come back not in original or sellable condition, and exempt items cannot be returned in store. Without the exemption, the standard rules apply: a minimum 30 day window that starts seven days after ship date, no restocking fee, and holiday purchases from October 1 to December 31 returnable until January 31.
The badge, on the other hand, signals fast free delivery to Walmart+ members. GeekSeller reports that Walmart applies free shipping and the badge automatically when the two-day condition is met. Walmart does not publish a conversion lift for the badge, so you have to measure your own.
Worked example, with illustrative numbers. A seller ships a $400 multi-box desk at 40 units a month, with a 6% return rate. That is 2.4 returns a month. If half come back damaged and a 20% restocking fee applies, the exemption recovers about $192 a month (1.2 x $80). If losing the badge cuts conversion by just 5%, the seller loses 2 sales a month. At a $90 contribution per desk, that is $180. The two are close, so the decision depends on your actual numbers, not on a rule of thumb. For an item with a 2% return rate the badge usually wins.
What Walmart sellers should do this week
Do this before Early Black Friday Deals open at 12:01 a.m. ET on November 12, 2026, as covered in our Walmart Black Friday 2026 calendar.
- Ops lead: export SKUs with return exemptions from your approved exemption records and the Returns settings in Seller Center, and cross-check them against your Walmart+ enrolled offers. Metric: a complete list of exempt, enrolled SFF offers.
- Owner or finance: for each exempt SKU, compare restocking fee income and avoided return cost with the margin on lost sales, using the math above. Metric: contribution margin per SKU with and without the exemption.
- Ops lead: where the badge wins, ask Walmart through Seller Center Help to remove the exemption, then re-enroll the SKUs with the Bulk Item Enrollment for Walmart+ feed or your integration partner. Metric: badge visible on the product page.
- Ads manager: until the badge is back, lower Sponsored Search bids on affected SKUs in Walmart Connect, because the click lands on a listing without the fast delivery signal. Metric: return on ad spend by SKU.
- Ops lead: keep the two-day delivery promise and the 14 day on-time and cancellation metrics in range, or re-enrollment will not hold. Metric: seller fault on-time delivery above 90%.
- Owner: if a bulky SKU must keep its exemption, consider whether Walmart Fulfillment Services can take it, since the rule is written for seller-fulfilled offers. Metric: delivery promise and sales after the move.
When this advice does not apply
If you use only Walmart Fulfillment Services, this notice is about seller-fulfilled offers and does not name WFS. If you are not enrolled in Walmart+ for seller-fulfilled items at all, or your items cannot promise two-day delivery, the badge was out of reach anyway and the exemption is worth keeping. For true luxury or freight goods with high damage rates, the exemption can be worth more than the badge.
Where PPC Spider helps
More updates are on our Walmart seller news channel, and the basics of setup are in our guide to Walmart Seller Center. PPC Spider's Walmart marketplace agency team sets ad targets from product margin after fees, and SpiderOS watches bids, budgets and stock so a SKU that loses a badge does not keep the same bids.
