What Walmart announced

Walmart's release notes say sellers can access Multichannel Solutions, or MCS, from their Shopify admin and use their existing WFS inventory to fulfill Shopify orders automatically. Items ship in unbranded packaging. Connecting the store automates fulfillment, inventory updates and tracking information, so sellers do not need to key orders in by hand.

How to set it up

Walmart lists two steps, and its Marketplace Learn guide on the Multichannel Solutions app integration covers the detail.

  • Install the Multichannel Solutions app from the Shopify App Store
  • Follow the prompts in Shopify admin to connect your Walmart Marketplace account

Which channels MCS covers

MCS is not only for Shopify. Walmart says it also fulfills orders from Amazon, eBay, Temu, TikTok Shop and other channels. The Shopify app is the newest and simplest connection because it runs inside the Shopify admin where many brands already manage their store.

Why it matters

Many brands keep separate stock for their own website, often at a third-party warehouse, while their Walmart stock sits in WFS. Pooling that inventory can cut storage costs and reduce the risk of one pile selling out while the other sits still. It also creates a real choice for brands that sell on Amazon and Walmart. In September Amazon said its new Seller Central multichannel tools will let sellers fulfill Shopify orders through Amazon, so brands now have two marketplace fulfillment networks competing for their Shopify orders.

The release notes do not publish MCS fees or delivery speeds. The Shopify App Store listing for Walmart MCS Connect says the app is free to install, that additional charges may apply and are billed directly by Walmart rather than on your Shopify invoice, and that it includes an in-app fee calculator, automated SKU mapping, inventory sync and returns handling. Use the calculator before switching and test with a small share of orders.

What to check before switching

Run a short comparison before you route Shopify orders to WFS.

  • Per-order MCS cost against your current 3PL
  • Delivery speed promised on your Shopify checkout
  • Whether unbranded boxes suit your brand
  • How returns from Shopify orders are handled
  • Stock buffer so Walmart orders do not run short
  • Tracking sync back into Shopify

Compare before switching

  • Cost per order
  • Delivery speed
  • Unbranded packaging fit
  • Returns handling
  • Stock buffers

Inventory planning gets more important

Shared stock means a strong week on Shopify can leave Walmart listings out of stock, which hurts search placement and Walmart Connect ads. Set safety stock per channel and watch sell-through weekly during the holidays. Our guide to Walmart vs Amazon for sellers covers how the two marketplaces differ on fulfillment and fees.
