What does Amazon Renewed mean?
A Renewed product has been inspected, tested and, where needed, repaired by a seller approved for the program, so it works and looks like new or close to it. Renewed listings sit on their own ASINs and must be cheaper than the new version of the same product.
Buyers get the Amazon Renewed Guarantee, which lets them return or replace an item that does not work as expected within the guarantee period shown on the listing. Some products are also sold as Renewed Premium with stricter standards; check the listing for the exact terms.
Amazon Renewed seller requirements
Amazon's Renewed program page lists these requirements for 2026:

Renewed pricing and fees
Renewed products must be priced at least 5% below their new counterparts, and Amazon suggests Automate Pricing to keep that gap as the new price moves. Normal referral fees and FBA fees apply.
Amazon's program page also says a Renewed promotional referral fee applies for one year from October 16, 2026 in eligible categories. Check the current rate for your category in Seller Central before you price, and read our breakdown of Amazon FBA fees if you plan to use FBA.
Quality standards and how Amazon enforces them
Amazon runs test buys and monitors customer feedback on Renewed offers. Items must arrive clean, working and with the accessories a buyer would expect, such as chargers and cables. Poor results can lead to listings being removed or approval being withdrawn, which then shows up in your Amazon account health metrics.
Sellers must stand behind every product with the Amazon Renewed Guarantee and handle the resulting claims, so build returns cost into your margin.
Before you apply, write down your grading process: how each unit is tested, how batteries and screens are checked, how cosmetic grade is decided and what goes in the box. A documented process makes the application easier to support, keeps quality consistent between technicians and gives you evidence if a test buy or customer complaint is ever disputed.
Which products sell well on Amazon Renewed?
Renewed is strongest in categories where new prices are high and buyers accept a used item that works perfectly.
- Phones, tablets and laptops
- Smart home devices and audio equipment
- Power tools and outdoor equipment
- Kitchen appliances
- Cameras and gaming consoles
Amazon Renewed vs used and Amazon Resale
Renewed is not the same as listing an item in Used condition. Used offers sit on the original ASIN with a condition note and do not need program approval in most categories. Renewed has its own ASINs, approval and the Renewed Guarantee.
Amazon Resale is Amazon's own outlet for returned and open-box items. Brands with large return volumes can also consider liquidation, covered in our guide to Amazon FBA liquidations.
Should brands sell their own products on Renewed?
Some brands use Renewed to recover value from customer returns that can be repaired. It keeps refurbished units under your control instead of letting third parties resell them. The risks are cannibalising new sales and quality complaints attached to your brand name, so use it for limited volumes and tightly graded stock.
