Which trademarks qualify for Brand Registry?
Amazon accepts trademarks from government offices in countries where it runs a store, including the USPTO in the United States. The mark must be a word mark, which is text only, or a design mark that includes words, letters or numbers. A purely graphic logo with no text does not qualify on its own.
The brand name you enter must match the trademark text exactly, including spaces and symbols, although capitalization differences are accepted. For design marks you upload an exact copy of the logo as it appears on the trademark record. Our Amazon Brand Registry guide covers the rest of the enrollment requirements.
- Word mark: the brand name in standard characters
- Design mark: a logo that includes words, letters or numbers
- Registered or pending, from an eligible government office
- Owned by the applicant enrolling the brand
Word mark or design mark: which should you file?
A word mark protects the name itself in any font or style, which is the broadest protection and the easiest match for Brand Registry. A design mark protects the specific logo. Many brands file the word mark first because it covers more ground and avoids problems when the logo is redesigned. If budget allows, filing both gives the most complete protection.
Brand Registry, serialization, seller monitoring, test buys and takedowns handled by one team, so counterfeits and rogue sellers stop eating your margin.
Registered vs pending trademarks
You do not need to wait for registration. Amazon accepts pending applications for Brand Registry in many cases. The biggest advantage comes from filing through Amazon IP Accelerator: Amazon says participants can access some brand protection benefits sooner, even while registration is pending. Not every tool unlocks automatically, because each Brand Registry tool has its own access rules.
How much does a trademark for Amazon cost?
Costs come from two places: the government fee and the professional fee. Under the fee schedule in place since January 2025, the USPTO charges a base application fee of $350 per class of goods or services, according to fee guides and law firm alerts on the new schedule. Surcharges apply to incomplete applications and to free-form descriptions instead of pre-approved Trademark ID Manual wording.
Through IP Accelerator, Amazon lists pre-negotiated US rates for a single brand in a single class: a maximum service fee of $700 for the application plus government fees, $650 for a high-level brand search and $1,800 for a comprehensive brand review. Amazon charges nothing to connect you with a provider; you pay the law firm directly.
- USPTO base fee: $350 per class
- Surcharge for insufficient information: $100 per class
- Surcharge for free-form descriptions: $200 per class
- IP Accelerator US application: up to $700 service fee plus government fees
- IP Accelerator search: $650 high level, $1,800 comprehensive

How IP Accelerator works
IP Accelerator connects brands with vetted IP law firms. Amazon says it supports filings in 22 trademark offices worldwide, with help in 18 languages. You find it in Seller Central under Apps and Services, then Explore Services. Providers respond within two business days, and they notify you when the application is filed so you can enroll in Brand Registry. If you already have a Brand Registry account, use the same email when you request a provider.
Common trademark mistakes Amazon sellers make
These mistakes cause rejected Brand Registry applications or weak protection.
- Filing a descriptive name the USPTO is likely to refuse
- Filing only a logo with no words
- Brand name on packaging that differs from the trademark
- Choosing the wrong class for the product
- Letting an attorney's email miss Amazon's confirmation request
- Using a filing service that is not a qualified attorney
What to do after you are approved
A trademark is only useful if you enforce it. Once enrolled, use Report a Violation for infringing listings, keep your trademark details current, and build toward Amazon Project Zero eligibility. Then put the growth tools to work: A+ Content, Stores and Amazon Brand Analytics for search data.
