What is a Prime exclusive deal?

A Prime Exclusive Discount lowers the price for Prime members only. Non-members see the regular price, while Prime members see the discounted price with a strikethrough of the reference price. Because it is visible in search results, a PED can lift click-through rate as well as conversion, which also helps your ads.

Unlike a Lightning Deal, which Amazon schedules into a short slot with capped units, a PED is a price discount you set for a date range. Amazon guides describe price discounts running for up to 30 days, and you can include many products in one promotion.

How the reference price rule works

A PED only shows a strikethrough when the product has a valid reference price, such as a list price or a recent was price. Amazon's guidance has required the discounted price to sit a set percentage below that reference price, with a deeper cut required during events such as Prime Day and Black Friday. Check the current thresholds when you create the promotion, because Amazon shows them in the setup screen.

Since April 23, 2026, Amazon applies stricter List Price validation: a reference price must be backed by real sales or prices elsewhere. Inflated list prices no longer produce a strikethrough and can block the discount entirely.

Prime exclusive deal fees in 2026

For the 2026 holiday events, Amazon kept deal fees at the same level as the previous year. Prime Exclusive Discounts, Best Deals and Lightning Deals carried an upfront fee of $100 per promotion plus 1.5% of promotional sales, capped at $5,000, according to trade press coverage of Amazon's July 2026 announcement. Deals submitted early for Black Friday Week saved $50 on the upfront fee. Outside events, check the fee shown in Seller Central when you create the discount.

  • Upfront fee for 2026 holiday events: $100 per promotion
  • Variable fee: 1.5% of promotional sales
  • Cap: $5,000 per promotion
  • Early submission discount: $50, now expired for 2026 events

Prime exclusive deal vs Lightning Deal vs coupon

Each promotion type does a different job. PEDs reward Prime members across a range of products with a strong price signal. Amazon Lightning Deals create short bursts of urgency on one product. Coupons are cheap to run and show a clip badge to all shoppers. Our guide to Amazon promotions for sellers compares all of them side by side.

How to create a Prime Exclusive Discount, step by step

PEDs are created in Seller Central. The exact menu label can vary, so look under Advertising for Prime Exclusive Discounts or Prime discounts.

  • Confirm each ASIN has a valid reference price
  • Open the Prime Exclusive Discounts page and create a new discount
  • Choose an event, such as Black Friday Week, or a custom date range
  • Add ASINs individually or by file upload
  • Enter the discount as a price, amount or percentage
  • Set a unit limit if you want to cap exposure
  • Submit and check that each ASIN shows as approved

How PEDs affect future deal pricing

Amazon uses recent selling prices to decide the maximum deal price for later events. For 2026, Amazon said Prime Big Deal Days PED prices were excluded from the 30 and 60 day lookback windows and would not limit the maximum deal price for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday. Rules like this change by event, so read the readiness notice before each one.

When a Prime exclusive deal makes sense

PEDs are strongest when Prime shoppers are most active and when you want a whole product line on sale without the fee of a deal per ASIN.

  • Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days
  • Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday
  • Seasonal products during their peak weeks
  • Product lines where many variations should share one offer
  • Launch periods when a visible discount helps first sales

Protecting margin on PEDs

A strikethrough price is easy to set and easy to overuse. Calculate profit after referral and FBA fees at the discounted price, including peak fulfillment fees from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027. If a coupon or Brand Tailored Promotion can stack on the same ASIN, check the combined discount. Raise ad bids during the discount, because better conversion makes each click worth more. How PPC Spider helps

PPC Spider plans PEDs alongside Amazon PPC management, checking margin at the discounted price and adjusting bids and budgets during the event. SpiderOS watches stock so a discount does not trigger a stockout. Plans start from $995 per month for PPC, or begin with a free Amazon audit.
