What happened to Suja Life stock

Suja Life priced 8,888,889 Class A shares at $21.00 on May 6, 2026, the low end of its $21 to $24 range, raising about $187 million. Goldman Sachs, Jefferies and William Blair led the deal. The stock opened for trading on May 7 and closed its first day 15% lower, at $17.85, according to Bloomberg and Renaissance Capital.

It never recovered. On October 25, 2026, Renaissance Capital's IPO tracker showed a latest trade of $9.84, a return of minus 53.1% from the offer price. In other words, an investor who bought $10,000 of stock at the IPO would be sitting on less than $4,700.

The strange part: sales are still growing

This is not a collapsing brand. Suja Life reported first quarter 2026 net sales of $107.1 million, up 22.5% from $87.4 million. In the second quarter, which ended June 29, net sales rose 11.6% to $83.9 million and adjusted EBITDA jumped 50% to $14.6 million, a 17.5% margin.

For the full year, management guided to net sales of $360 million to $369 million, growth of 10.2% to 13.0% over the $326.6 million it reported for fiscal 2025, with adjusted EBITDA of $70 million to $72 million.

So why did investors walk away?

The filings point to several pressure points that public market investors tend to punish, even when the top line grows.

  • Growth slowed from 22.5% in Q1 to 11.6% in Q2, and gross margin slipped to 46.7% from 47.4%
  • Management flagged near term softness concentrated in the grocery channel
  • The second quarter showed a net loss of $27.8 million, including $25.1 million of one time IPO costs
  • Most of the IPO money went to the balance sheet, not growth: $141.3 million to repay credit agreement borrowings and about $17.5 million in cash to certain employees and directors
  • About 5.95 million locked up shares become tradable on November 4, 2026, according to IPO Tracker

What this means for sellers and brands

Suja's story is a warning that growth alone does not create value if it depends on one channel and the margin is shrinking. A brand whose sales lean on grocery shelf placement feels it fast when that channel softens. Brands that also build demand on Amazon, Walmart and their own store can shift spend to where shoppers are buying, which our DTC marketing strategy examples cover in detail.

It also shows how investors read the numbers. Slowing growth plus a thinner gross margin is a red flag, even with rising EBITDA. The same logic applies to your Amazon business: revenue that grows only because ad spend grows is not healthy growth. Set target ACoS from product margin after fees, not from last year's sales.

What sellers should do

If you run a CPG, beverage or wellness brand, use Suja's numbers as a checklist for your own business before your next fundraise, acquisition talk or retail reset.

  • Check how much revenue depends on your single largest channel or retailer
  • Track gross margin by channel every month, including Amazon fees and ad cost
  • Build a marketplace channel with its own profit target before retail softens
  • Separate one time costs from operating losses in your reporting
  • Plan launches with a step by step Amazon product launch plan rather than discount driven bursts
