Key takeaways

  • FBA fulfillment fees rise $0.19 a unit on average from January 15, 2027, more than double 2026's $0.08.
  • From February 1, the storage utilization surcharge ends and storage becomes one age-based rate: cheaper under six months, dearer after.
  • Check your own SKUs in the Fee Change Comparison dashboard; the average can be far from your number.

  2. Holiday peak fees and 3.5% fuel surcharge apply

  3. FBA fees up $0.19 a unit on average; MCF standard up 3.5%

  4. Utilization surcharge ends; age-based storage; new low-inventory test

What Amazon announced

In a letter from the Amazon Selling Partner Services team, published on the Amazon Selling Partners site under Sunny Jain, Vice President of Worldwide Fulfillment by Amazon, Amazon says FBA fulfillment fees will increase by $0.19 per unit sold on average. Amazon frames this as about 0.8% of the average item's selling price and stresses that some products will go up while others go down, so each fee "more closely matches" its cost to fulfill. The FBA fuel and logistics surcharge Amazon introduced in April 2026 stays unchanged, and Amazon says it will keep reviewing it as fuel and trucking costs move.

The full rate card sits on Amazon's "2027 US Referral and Fulfillment by Amazon fees" page, which the letter says also covers changes for small and large standard-size items, items priced above $50, "Buy X, Get Y" promotions, Multichannel Fulfillment and Amazon Warehousing and Distribution. Amazon added a new Fee Change Comparison dashboard in Profit Analytics that shows the effect at account and product level. For the fee basics behind all of this, see our Amazon FBA fees guide.

The bigger story: storage is being rebuilt

PYMNTS called storage the bigger change for many merchants, and the letter supports that. Effective February 1, 2027, Amazon will:

  • Eliminate the storage utilization surcharge, which Amazon says will make it easier to stock up ahead of high-demand events.
  • Remove the aged inventory surcharge and combine it with monthly storage fees into one age-based rate.
  • Charge flat or lower storage for inventory that turns in under six months, and higher fees for aged inventory.
  • Assess the low-inventory-level fee only when inventory falls below 28 days of supply, based on actual shipments in the four weeks before and the four weeks after the assessment date, instead of trailing 30 and 90 day sales.

Multichannel Fulfillment and Buy with Prime

Brands that use Amazon to ship Shopify or other website orders get a separate change. Amazon Supply Chain Services says MCF standard speed and Buy with Prime fulfillment fees will rise by an average of 3.5% from January 15, 2027, while expedited speed stays flat on average. MCF size tiers will align with FBA, Preferred Pricing is extended through 2027 with discounts of up to 25%, and a returns surcharge is coming for boxed returns.

So what: the money math

The headline average hides a wide spread. One seller on the Sellers Ask Sellers forum said its portfolio averaged a 6 cent rise after checking the dashboard, well under the $0.19 average, so some catalogs will feel much more than the average and some much less.

Worked example, illustrative numbers: a brand sells 3,000 FBA units a month of a $24 product, which earns $3.60 of net profit per unit (15%). If its fee rise equals the $0.19 average, that is $570 a month, or about $6,840 a year, and it removes about 5.3% of the product's profit. A brand at 8% net margin ($1.92 a unit) loses about 9.9% of profit on the same rise. Thin-margin, low-price SKUs feel this most, because $0.19 is a bigger share of a $12 item than a $40 one.

The storage change cuts the other way. Brands that turn stock in under six months should pay the same or less, and the end of the utilization surcharge removes a penalty for building stock before Prime Day or Q4. Brands with slow movers sitting past six months will pay more every month those units stay. Our 2026 fee changes recap shows how the current stack was built.

  • $0.19 a unit is about 2.4 times the $0.08 average rise for 2026.
  • Fast-turning inventory wins under the age-based storage rate; aged stock loses.

What sellers should do

You have until January 15 for fulfillment fees and February 1 for storage, and the holiday peak fees already in force run to January 14. Start now:

  • Finance lead: open the Fee Change Comparison dashboard in Profit Analytics and export the per-ASIN change. Metric: list of SKUs where the 2027 fee rise exceeds 10% of unit profit.
  • Pricing owner: for those SKUs, test a price rise or a bigger pack size in the Revenue Calculator before January 15, using our Amazon profit calculator for the full fee stack. Metric: contribution margin per unit held at or above 2026 level.
  • Inventory planner: pull the inventory age report and flag units that will be over six months old on February 1. Metric: units aged 181+ days trending down each week.
  • Ads manager: move Sponsored Products budget toward aged SKUs to sell them through, then cut it once age falls under six months. Metric: units aged 181+ days and ACoS against breakeven. Our FBA inventory management guide covers the cadence.
  • Ops lead: with the utilization surcharge gone from February 1, revisit how much stock you send ahead of Prime Day 2027. Metric: weeks of cover versus storage cost per unit.
  • D2C team: if you ship site orders through MCF or Buy with Prime, rerun your shipping cost per order with a 3.5% higher standard fee. Metric: shipping cost as a share of website order value.

Before February 1, 2027

  • Export per-ASIN changes from Fee Change Comparison
  • Flag SKUs where the rise tops 10% of unit profit
  • Reprice or repack thin-margin SKUs
  • List units that will be over 6 months old
  • Sell aged stock through with ads
  • Rerun MCF cost per website order

When this does not apply

These are US marketplace changes; sellers in Europe, the UK, Canada or Japan should wait for their own store's notice. Merchant-fulfilled orders do not pay FBA fulfillment fees, though referral fees still apply. And the $0.19 figure is an average, so do not budget from it: the dashboard number for your own ASINs is the only one that counts.
