Amazon fee changes 2026 at a glance
Amazon announced its 2026 US fee update in October 2025. It described the change as a slight increase in FBA fees of about $0.08 per unit sold on average, which it said is less than 0.5% of an average item's selling price. Later in the year Amazon added a fuel and logistics surcharge and repeated its holiday peak fees, so the total increase for 2026 is larger than the January figure alone.
- January 1: Amazon ends US FBA prep and item labeling services
- January 15: FBA fulfillment fees rise about $0.08 per unit on average
- January 15: low-inventory-level fee measured per FNSKU
- March 31: commingling ends; resellers label every unit
- April 17: 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on FBA fulfillment fees
- May 2: surcharge extends to Buy with Prime and Multi-Channel Fulfillment
- October 15 to January 14, 2027: holiday peak fulfillment fees
The January 15 FBA fulfillment fee increase
The averages hide differences by price band. Fee trackers citing Amazon's figures report average increases of about $0.08 per unit for standard-size products priced $10 to $50, $0.05 for products under $10 and $0.31 for products above $50. Your exact change depends on size tier, weight and price, so check the Fee Preview report for each SKU instead of applying an average.
Amazon also changed how the low-inventory-level fee is measured. Since January 15, 2026 it is assessed per seller FNSKU rather than per parent ASIN, with the 28-day threshold unchanged. Sellers with many variations should watch child-level stock more closely.
2026 fee changes by the numbers
Demand forecasts, restock plans, inbound strategy and monthly reimbursement claims, so ads never run into an empty warehouse and Amazon pays back what it owes.
The end of Amazon prep and labeling services
Not every 2026 cost appears on a fee report. From January 1, Amazon stopped offering prep and item labeling for US FBA shipments, so the labor and materials for FNSKU labels, bagging and bundling moved to sellers or their prep providers. When commingling ended on March 31, resellers also had to label every unit. Our Amazon prep center and Amazon commingled inventory guides cover both changes.
The 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge
Starting April 17, 2026, Amazon applied a 3.5% fuel and logistics-related surcharge to fulfillment fees across FBA in the US and Canada, and to Remote Fulfillment with FBA from the US into Canada, Mexico and Brazil. From May 2 it also applied to Buy with Prime in the US and Multi-Channel Fulfillment in the US and Canada.
Amazon said the surcharge averages $0.17 per unit for US FBA and is calculated on fulfillment fees, not on your sale price. Amazon described it as temporary but has not published an end date, so plan as if it will continue.
Holiday peak fees and Q4 storage
Holiday peak fulfillment fees apply to units shipped from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027, and the fuel surcharge applies on top. Sellers tracking the announcement report an average uplift of about $0.32 per unit, with more for larger items. Monthly storage also rises from October to December. Our Amazon FBA fees guide breaks down the full fee stack.
What about referral fees and Canada?
Coverage of the January update reported no change to US referral fee percentages. In Canada, Amazon announced there would be no increase to referral or FBA fees for 2026, while it capped variable coupon fees and launched FBA Liquidations from November 5, 2025. The fuel surcharge still applies to Canadian FBA fulfillment fees from April 17.
Who feels the 2026 fee changes most
Low-priced products feel every cent. For example, a $0.25 combined increase on a $9 item is close to 3% of the price, which can wipe out the margin on a thin product. Large and heavy items carry the biggest absolute increases from the peak fee and the surcharge, because both scale with the fulfillment fee. Resellers felt the labeling change most, because brand owners with the Brand Representative role can still use manufacturer barcodes.
How to protect margin, step by step
A fee change is only a problem if your prices and ad targets ignore it.
- Pull the Fee Preview report and compare each SKU with last year
- Add the 3.5% surcharge and Q4 peak fee to your margin model
- Recalculate break-even ACoS per ASIN from the new margin
- Lower ad targets on thin-margin products before Q4 traffic
- Review prices on items under $10 and on oversized items
- Check dimensions so you are not paying for the wrong size tier
- Clear aged stock before surcharge bands rise

Will there be Amazon fee changes in 2027?
Amazon has typically announced the next year's US fee update in the fall. At the time of writing we had not confirmed an official 2027 announcement, so treat any figures you see online with caution until they appear in Seller Central. We will update this page when Amazon publishes them.
Fees feed straight into profit, which is why PPC Spider sets every target ACoS from product margin after fees. Our Amazon PPC management service and what is a good ACoS guide explain the method, and a free Amazon audit recalculates your targets with 2026 fees included.
