Key takeaways

  • Restock limits now mean monthly capacity limits per storage type, in cubic feet, set in week three of each month.
  • Sellers report ASIN-level caps since April 2025, so check quantities in Send to Amazon as well.
  • Keep reserve stock upstream and replenish FBA in smaller, more frequent shipments.

How FBA restock limits changed

  1. Storage-type limits replace ASIN limits

  2. One monthly capacity limit per storage type

  3. Sellers report ASIN-level caps

  4. US prep services end

What is an Amazon FBA restock limit?

A restock limit is the most inventory Amazon will let you have in, or on the way to, its fulfillment network. The term comes from Amazon's older system, which used weekly restock limits by storage type alongside quarterly storage limits. In April 2021 Amazon moved from ASIN-level quantity limits to storage-type limits, and on March 1, 2023 it replaced weekly restock and quarterly storage limits with one monthly capacity limit per storage type.

Today, when sellers talk about their restock limit, they usually mean that monthly capacity limit, which our Amazon FBA capacity limits guide covers in depth.

How restock limits are calculated now

Amazon says capacity limits are influenced by your Inventory Performance Index (IPI), sales forecasts for your ASINs, shipment lead time and available fulfillment center capacity. The limit counts both inventory on hand and shipments not yet received, and it is measured in cubic feet, so bulky items fill it much faster than small ones.

Amazon announces next month's limit in the third full week of each month, with estimates for the two months after. Those estimates can rise or fall depending on how efficiently you use space.

Are ASIN-level restock limits back?

Seller reports since April 2025 describe caps on how much of a single ASIN can be sent, often tied to around 90 days of supply, and some sellers posted on Amazon's forums that their storage allocation was cut sharply. Amazon has not published a formal Seller Central announcement confirming a new ASIN-level rule.

In practice, treat the Send to Amazon workflow as the final word. If it limits the quantity you can send for an ASIN, plan around that number and use the Capacity Monitor for the overall picture. Amazon representatives have pointed sellers to three remedies: clear excess or aged stock, request space in Capacity Manager and use Amazon Warehousing and Distribution for longer-term storage.

How to check your restock limit

Look in two places before you place a purchase order, not just before you ship.

  • Capacity Monitor: confirmed limit for this month and next, estimates for two more, current usage and open shipments by storage type
  • Send to Amazon: any quantity caps on individual SKUs when you build a shipment
  • Inventory Performance dashboard: your IPI score and the factors pulling it down
  • Restock Inventory report: Amazon's suggested quantities and timing per SKU

Where to check before you ship

  • Capacity Monitor limits
  • Send to Amazon SKU caps
  • IPI and its drivers
  • Restock Inventory report

Why your restock limit dropped

A lower limit usually points to inventory health, not a penalty.

  • Excess inventory relative to recent sales
  • Aged stock that has sat for more than 181 days
  • Stranded inventory with no active listing
  • Falling sales forecasts after a stockout or price change
  • Long lead times between creating and delivering shipments
  • Network-wide space pressure, especially ahead of Q4

How to work within FBA restock limits

The goal is to keep winners in stock without using more cubic feet than you need.

  • Prioritise space for your highest margin, fastest selling ASINs
  • Ship smaller loads more often to keep lead times and on-hand stock low
  • Hold reserve stock at a 3PL or in Amazon Warehousing and Distribution
  • Clear slow movers with coupons, deals or a removal order
  • Request extra space in Capacity Manager only for stock that will sell
  • Keep an FBM offer on key ASINs as a backup if FBA runs low

Plan restocks around prep and fees

Two 2026 changes affect restock planning. Since January 1, 2026, Amazon no longer preps or labels US FBA inventory, so every replenishment needs prep time at your facility or a prep center. And FBA fees rose by an average of $0.08 per unit from January 15, 2026, with a 3.5% fuel surcharge on fulfillment fees from April 17. Storage also costs far more from October to December, which is another reason to send holiday stock in stages. See our Amazon FBA fees guide for the full picture.

What restock limits mean for ads

Restock limits and advertising are linked. If a capped ASIN keeps running aggressive ads, it can sell out before the next shipment lands, losing rank and wasting the ad spend that built it. Match ad budgets to available stock and lift them when inventory arrives. Also read our post on Amazon stockouts and rank for how to recover.

Where PPC Spider helps

PPC Spider's FBA inventory management service forecasts demand per ASIN and plans shipments within your limits. SpiderOS monitors stock alongside bids, budgets and search terms, so ads ease off before a capped product runs out. For a review of your IPI, limits and replenishment plan, book a free Amazon audit.
