- When
- Rolled out to remaining North American accounts in March 2026, per trade press

- All Amazon sellers, FBA and FBM

Key takeaways
- Amazon holds proceeds until seven days after delivery (DD+7), so forecast payouts from delivery dates.
- Q4 stock, peak fees and January returns make December to February the tightest cash period.
- Reimbursements, aged stock and unprofitable ad spend are the fastest sources of trapped cash.

Why cash flow is the main limit on Amazon growth
Profitable Amazon businesses still run out of cash. You pay suppliers weeks or months before stock sells, pay freight and prep before it arrives, and pay for ads daily, while Amazon pays you after the sale is delivered and any reserve period ends. The faster you grow, the bigger that gap becomes.
That is why cash, not demand, is the usual ceiling. Our guide on how to scale on Amazon puts the cash plan second, straight after unit economics.
How Amazon payouts work in 2026: DD+7
Amazon describes DD+7 as a standard reserve period of seven days after delivery. The clock starts on the confirmed delivery date for tracked shipments, or the estimated delivery date for untracked ones. Once the period ends, funds move to your available balance and are paid out with your next disbursement.
Trade press reports that the reserve applies to FBA orders as well as seller fulfilled orders, and that it reached the remaining long standing North American accounts in March 2026. Amazon presented the change as a one off cash flow impact. In practice, faster delivery means faster cash: a two day Prime order releases sooner than a slow ground shipment.
- Reserve starts at delivery, not at order or shipment
- Untracked shipments use the estimated delivery date
- Applies to FBA and FBM orders
- Slow carriers and late delivery scans delay payouts
Demand forecasts, restock plans, inbound strategy and monthly reimbursement claims, so ads never run into an empty warehouse and Amazon pays back what it owes.
Map your full cash conversion cycle
List every step from paying a supplier deposit to receiving payout, with typical days for each. For many imported products that means deposit, production, balance payment, ocean freight, port and trucking, FBA receiving, days to sell, delivery and the seven day reserve. Add them up: that is how long each dollar is tied up.
Then shorten the steps you control: supplier terms, smaller and more frequent orders, faster receiving and less excess stock.
Q4 and January pressure points
Q4 is when cash is tightest. You buy stock months ahead, ad costs rise in November, and the holiday peak fulfillment fee applies from October 15, 2026 to January 14, 2027. Then, because purchases from November 1 to December 31 can be returned until January 31, 2027, refunds reduce January payouts after Q4 revenue has already been counted.
Plan a cash buffer for January, and do not place large spring orders until you know how many holiday units are coming back. Our Amazon return policy guide covers the holiday window.
How to build a 13 week cash forecast
A weekly forecast shows problems early enough to act. Keep it simple and update it every Monday.
- Start with your current bank and Amazon balance
- Add expected payouts using delivery date plus seven days
- Subtract supplier deposits and balances on their due dates
- Subtract freight, prep, ad spend, software and payroll
- Subtract expected refunds, higher after Q4
- Flag any week where cash falls below your safety buffer

Funding options for Amazon sellers
If the forecast shows a gap, choose funding that matches the use. Inventory for a proven product suits a term loan or merchant cash advance repaid from sales. Ongoing seasonal swings suit a revolving line of credit. Amazon's lending page lists third party providers including Lendistry, Parafin, QuickBooks Capital, Uncapped, Slope and SBA loans through iBusiness Funding, and Amazon said at Accelerate 2026 that lending will open to all sellers by year end without an invitation.
Compare total cost, repayment method and whether repayment comes out of your Amazon balance. Our Amazon Lending guide explains each option.
Eight ways to free up cash now
Most sellers have cash trapped in the business already. These steps release it without new debt.
- File FBA reimbursement claims for lost, damaged and unreturned units
- Liquidate or remove aged inventory before long term storage fees
- Cut ad spend on products above break-even ACoS
- Negotiate supplier terms or a smaller deposit
- Order smaller batches more often for slower SKUs
- Speed up delivery for FBM orders to shorten the reserve
- Fix listings with high return rates
- Review subscriptions and software you no longer use

Reimbursements: the cash most sellers leave behind
When Amazon loses or damages FBA stock, or refunds a customer whose return never arrives, you may be owed a reimbursement. Claims have deadlines and need evidence, so a monthly review is better than an annual cleanup. See our guides to Amazon FBA reimbursement and Amazon reimbursement claims.
How PPC Spider helps protect cash
PPC Spider is an Amazon and marketplace agency. SpiderOS, our AI platform, monitors bids, budgets, search terms and stock, so spend stays within target ACoS set from margin after fees and stock alerts arrive before you overorder or run out. Our inventory and reimbursements service files claims monthly. PPC plans start at $995 a month and full service at $1,950, and a free Amazon audit shows where cash is leaking.
