What changed in the Amazon dietary supplement policy
Earlier versions of the policy let sellers upload a certificate of analysis from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited lab or proof of an independent certification. That route has closed. Documentation now goes through a TIC provider, which reviews your documents or runs the tests and sends the result to Amazon.
Industry coverage in 2026 also reports that cGMP certification now applies to all supplement categories in the US store, not only higher risk ones, and that Amazon is contacting sellers in waves rather than on one public deadline.
cGMP requirements: which certificates count
Supplements must be made under current good manufacturing practice, in line with 21 CFR Part 111. Amazon accepts certificates from recognised programs, not self-assessments.
- Accepted examples: NSF/ANSI 455-2, NSF 229, UL GMP 21 CFR 111, USP, SGS and TGA
- Food safety schemes such as SQF, BRCGS, FSSC 22000 and IFS where benchmarked
- Some international GMP equivalents, such as PIC/S GMP and Health Canada site licences
- Not accepted: private audits, first-party or consulting audits, and FDA inspection reports
Proof Amazon will and will not take
| Accepted | Not accepted | |
|---|---|---|
| GMP proof | NSF, UL, USP certificate | FDA inspection report |
| Audits | Recognised programs | Private or consulting |
| Test results | Sent by TIC provider | Seller-uploaded CoA |
Suppressed listings, stranded inventory, policy notifications, cases that never close. One ticket, one owner, resolved to the end, or a retainer that stops the next one early.
How TIC verification works
When Amazon flags an ASIN, it appears in Account Health with a date to resolve it. You choose a TIC provider in the Manage Your Compliance page in Seller Central. The provider contacts you, reviews your cGMP certificate, labels and existing tests, runs any missing tests and uploads a pass or fail result to Amazon. Lab partners such as Eurofins describe the review as covering GMP, content claims, label review, adulterant tests and microbiology tests.
Products already certified under some programs, including NSF/ANSI 173 and NSF 229, can be validated faster through a fast-track route, according to industry coverage. Named fast-track partners include NSF, USP, BSCG, Informed Choice, GRMA and Clean Label Project.
Extra testing for higher risk categories
Supplements sold for weight management, sports nutrition, bodybuilding, sexual enhancement and joint health face more testing, because these are the categories where adulteration with drugs is most often found. Required checks reported in 2026 coverage include:
- Heavy metals and microbial contamination
- Ingredient amounts within tolerance of the Supplement Facts panel
- Adulterant screening based on NSF/ANSI 173
- Optional pesticide testing
Label and listing rules
The label is reviewed as closely as the lab work. Common failures are simple to fix if you catch them first.
- Images must show the full English label, including Supplement Facts, warnings and lot code
- No FDA logo and no claims that a product is FDA approved
- No disease claims or comparisons with drugs
- Ingredient amounts in the title and bullets must match the Supplement Facts panel exactly
- Non-GMO claims need certification or test evidence
- Products listed as New must be sealed; no tester or not for retail sale labels
Label check before testing
- Full English label in images
- No FDA logo or approval claim
- No disease claims
- Amounts match Supplement Facts
- Sealed if listed as New
Deadlines and what happens if you miss them
Coverage of the policy says sellers typically get about 90 days after Amazon contacts them to complete cGMP verification, and Amazon shows a specific date for each affected ASIN in Account Health. There is no single public deadline. If you miss the date, Amazon can suppress or remove the listing until you provide the required information, which hits sales rank and ad performance at the same time.
Documents must be genuine and unedited. Altered or AI-generated paperwork can escalate a listing problem into an account problem, so see our guides to Amazon ASIN suspension and Amazon account health.
Step by step: getting supplements compliant
Work through this list for every supplement ASIN, starting with your best sellers.
- Confirm your manufacturer's cGMP certificate is from an accepted program and current
- Check whether your products already hold NSF, USP or similar certification
- Audit every listing against the label: names, amounts, claims and images
- Choose a TIC provider in Manage Your Compliance and share documents
- Fix any label issues before testing to avoid paying twice
- Track each ASIN's status and date in Account Health
Advertising supplements on Amazon
Compliance also affects ads. Supplements with disease or drug-like claims can be rejected in Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands, and suppressed ASINs stop serving. Keep ad copy and custom images in line with the same claim rules as the listing, and our Amazon listing reinstatement guide covers what to do if a listing is taken down. The same discipline applies to other claims, such as Made in USA claims.
Where PPC Spider helps
PPC Spider audits supplement catalogues for label, claim and image problems before they reach a TIC review, and SpiderOS monitors listing status, bids, budgets, search terms and stock so suppressed ASINs do not keep spending. To find risks in your account, book a free Amazon audit.
