When
Announced November 4, 2026; Brand Agents is still in beta
Who it affects
Shopify and WooCommerce merchants, plus any site tracking AI agent traffic in Clarity
What to do
Clean your catalog, install the Clarity app, choose discovery only or both, track orders weekly

Key takeaways

  • Eligible Shopify and WooCommerce merchants can list products in Copilot, Bing and MSN through Clarity Brand Agents, with checkout on their own site.
  • Accepting the terms publishes your catalog to Microsoft Merchant Center, so audit prices and stock first.
  • Brand Agents is in beta with no published price, eligibility rules or ranking rules, so measure it as a test against paid shopping ads.

What Microsoft announced

In a Clarity blog post dated November 4, 2026, Microsoft grouped three updates. First, Brand Agents, its AI shopping assistant for stores, now also covers product discovery outside the website: products from eligible Shopify and WooCommerce merchants can show up across Copilot, Bing, MSN and other Microsoft surfaces when people ask AI what to buy. Shoppers are sent to the merchant's own site to pay. Merchants who already run Brand Agents need no extra catalog upload, and new users can pick the on-site chat agent, discovery only, or both during setup.

Second, an Agent Activity dashboard shows how much traffic comes from AI agents, which agents visit, and what they do, from searches and form fills to logins, bookings and checkout. Microsoft says it supports agents from Google, OpenAI and Anthropic for now, and adds simulations that test whether an agent can finish a task on your site, starting with commerce and travel. Third, Ask Clarity, a plain-language question tool for your site data, is in closed beta for retailers.

How the catalog gets into Copilot and Bing

Microsoft's Brand Agents documentation explains the mechanics. Accepting the Brand Agents terms counts as consent to publish your catalog to Microsoft Merchant Center, which is what makes products discoverable in Bing, Copilot and other Bing-grounded assistants. Catalog updates are reflected in real time. The documentation says Brand Agents is in beta, works for Shopify and WooCommerce websites only, not mobile apps, and requires a disclosure in your privacy statement because conversation data is shared with Microsoft.

Clarity itself is free. Microsoft has not published a price for Brand Agents, has not defined which merchants count as eligible, and has not listed countries. PPC Land also points out that the post does not explain how products are ranked in Copilot answers or how these free placements sit next to the paid shopping ads Microsoft Advertising sells on the same pages.

Why the numbers matter

Microsoft's own data shows why it is pushing this now. It says weekly sessions from AI agents nearly doubled in three weeks to almost 2 million, based on 5.23 million agent sessions across 230,511 Clarity projects between August 13 and September 9, 2026. That is still small next to human traffic, but it is growing fast, and the agents are increasingly doing the shopping steps a person used to do.

The angle most coverage misses: the free listing is the easy part. The risk is that an AI assistant now quotes your price, stock and product claims from a feed you may not have checked in months. A wrong price or a sold-out variant shown in Copilot costs trust before the shopper ever reaches your site.

So what: the math for a Shopify brand

Worked example, with illustrative numbers. A brand sells a $60 product and pays $0.80 a click on paid shopping ads with a 2% conversion rate, so each paid order costs $40 in ad spend. If the free Copilot and Bing listings bring 20 extra orders a month at no media cost, that is $1,200 in revenue and $800 of ad spend the brand did not have to buy, before any fee Microsoft may later charge. If the same listings instead pull shoppers who would have clicked your paid Microsoft shopping ads, the gain is close to zero, so measure the overlap.

The downside case is also simple. If 5% of your catalog shows a stale price or out-of-stock items, every AI answer that features those products sends a shopper to a page that does not match what they were told.

What sellers should do

Use the next two weeks, before Black Friday traffic peaks, to set this up with care.

  • Ecommerce manager: audit titles, prices, GTINs, variants and stock in Shopify before you accept the terms, since the catalog publishes to Microsoft Merchant Center as is. Metric: zero price or stock mismatches on your top 50 products.
  • Ecommerce manager: in the Shopify App Store install Microsoft Clarity: AI Insights, switch on Clarity Script in App settings, then choose Clarity with Brand agents in Clarity. Metric: Brand agents shows active in Clarity Settings.
  • Owner: pick discovery only if you do not want an AI chat agent speaking for your brand on site yet, or both if you have reviewed its greeting and reference material. Metric: a written decision and an approved greeting.
  • Legal or owner: add the required Brand Agents disclosure to your privacy statement before going live. Metric: privacy page updated and dated.
  • Paid media lead: tag and compare orders from Bing and Copilot referrals against your Microsoft Advertising shopping campaigns weekly. Metric: new orders from free listings without a matching drop in paid shopping conversions.
  • Analyst: check the Agent Activity dashboard weekly for agents that stall at search, login or checkout, and fix those pages first. Metric: share of agent sessions that reach checkout.

Before you accept the terms

  • Prices match on top 50 products
  • Stock and variants are current
  • GTINs filled in
  • Choose discovery only or both
  • Privacy statement updated
  • Weekly referral check booked

When this does not apply

If you sell only on Amazon or Walmart, this changes nothing yet, because the program covers Shopify and WooCommerce sites. If your store runs on another platform, or most sales come through a mobile app, you cannot use it today. Brands with strict pricing agreements with retailers should confirm that a public AI listing will not show a price that breaks them. And because the program is a beta with no published price or ranking rules, treat results as a test, not a channel plan.
