Key takeaways

  • Amazon created virtual multipacks for selected brand-owned FBA ASINs by October 28; they go on sale November 11 unless deleted by November 10.
  • A virtual 2-pack pays two fulfilment fees, so any discount comes out of margin.
  • Check images, quantities, MAP floors and reorder points before you keep, edit or delete each VMP_ listing.

Virtual multipacks, wave two

  1. First pilot announced for brand-owned FBA ASINs

  2. Pilot multipacks go live for shoppers

  3. Sellers share the new notice

  4. Amazon creates the new VMP_ listings

  5. Last day to review, reprice or delete

  6. Remaining packs become purchasable

What Amazon's notice says

The notice, reproduced on the Sellers Ask Sellers forum on October 13, 2026, says Amazon is targeting brand-owned FBA products with strong demand for multi-unit purchases. Amazon combines several units of an existing single-pack product into one offer, fulfilled from the single-pack stock. Each pack gets its own ASIN and SKU and appears as a variation on the single-pack page. Nothing is packaged together.

Amazon created the listings by October 28. Sellers can review or delete them through November 10, and anything still there on November 11 becomes available to buy. Price and title change through Edit virtual multipack; removal is Delete listing in the row menu. The default price is your per-unit list price multiplied by the pack size, with a percentage discount offered to make the pack attractive. This is the second wave: My Amazon Guy covered the first pilot in September 2025, and there is no opt-in. EcomCrew, updated October 15, 2026, reports the same timetable.

The fee math that most coverage skips

A virtual multipack is billed as separate units. My Amazon Guy's pilot write-up states that standard fulfilment fees apply per unit, so a 2-pack pays twice the single-pack fee. A seller on the Amazon forums put numbers on it: a prepacked 2-pack at $36.95 carried $9.22 in fees, while the virtual version at the same price carried two fees of $7.12, or $14.24, a difference of $5.02. A physical multipack saves money because Amazon ships one box. A virtual multipack saves nothing on fees, so any discount comes straight out of margin, which is the point the launch coverage misses.

So what: the discount is yours to fund

At the default price a virtual 2-pack earns exactly what two single orders earn, because every fee and cost doubles. It adds money only if it wins orders you would not otherwise get, or turns a one-unit buyer into a two-unit buyer. A discount given to buyers who would have bought two units anyway is a pure loss. The second cost is inventory: packs draw from the single-pack pool, so EcomCrew's example of 100 orders made up of 60 singles and 40 two-packs removes 140 units, and a stockout takes the single listing down with the pack.

Worked example with illustrative numbers

These numbers are invented to show the arithmetic. A $20 product costs $6 to make, pays a 15% referral fee of $3, a $3.50 fulfilment fee and about $2 in ads per unit, leaving $5.50. A virtual 2-pack at the default $40 leaves $11, the same as two singles.

Apply a 10% discount and the pack sells at $36. Referral fees fall to $5.40 but every other cost stays, so contribution is $7.60, or $3.40 less than two singles. If the buyer would otherwise have bought one unit, the pack adds $2.10. So the discount pays only if fewer than about 38% of pack buyers would have bought two units anyway, because 38% of $3.40 lost equals 62% of $2.10 gained. Nobody knows that mix before launch, so start with a small discount and watch single-pack conversion alongside it.

Known problems from the first pilot

Images are copied from the single-pack and do not update when you change the originals; sellers reported a 2-pack image showing as the main image on the single-pack page in July 2026 and again on October 13. Pack size cannot be changed. Price changes on the single unit do not flow to the pack. In the 2025 pilot a deleted pack could not be reactivated, so treat deletion as final. A per-unit discount can also undercut a wholesale agreement or a MAP floor on a page you did not create. The Amazon product bundles guide explains how physical packs, virtual bundles and these multipacks differ.

What sellers should do before November 10

  • Catalog manager: filter the SKU column in Manage All Inventory for VMP_ and export the list. Metric: every pack ASIN on a sheet with its parent.
  • Finance: run each pack through the fee preview and compare contribution with two singles. Metric: a per-pack figure next to the single-unit figure.
  • Brand manager: check every pack title, image and variation label states the total contents. Metric: no pack page shows an ambiguous quantity.
  • Pricing owner: remove any default discount below a MAP floor or retail per-unit price. Metric: pack per-unit price at or above the lowest agreed price.
  • Operations: reset reorder points on units per order, using the FBA inventory management guide. Metric: the forecast includes pack units.
  • Account owner: record keep, edit or delete per pack, then re-check live pages on November 11 and the first settlement. Metric: fees charged match the preview.

Before November 10

  • Export every VMP_ SKU
  • Compare pack margin with two singles
  • Check images and total quantity
  • Remove discounts below MAP
  • Reset reorder points on units
  • Record keep, edit or delete per ASIN

When this does not apply

If you are not brand-owned on the ASIN, or you fulfil yourself, Amazon has not said you are in scope. Vendors already manage multipacks in Vendor Central. If a buyer rarely wants two of your product, delete the pack. If you already sell a physical multipack with its own lower fee, a virtual pack beside it can push sales toward the dearer version, so check the Amazon FBA fees guide first.
